Alison Bechdel (Fun Home, Dykes To Watch Out For) was recently featured on NPR’s All Things Considered in a story about her “Bechdel Rule,” and how it applies to this fall’s television lineup.
“The Rule” first appeared in DTWOF in the early 1980s. It details the three criteria a movie has to meet before she’ll watch it: 1) It has to have at least two women in it, who 2) talk to each other about 3) something that isn’t a man.
You can hear the radio story here.
I’m a huge fan of Alison’s Bechdel’s work. She’s a multi-faceted artist, and her graphic autobiograpy, Fun Home, is an absolute tour de force. Sadly, DTWOF is on hiatus while she finishes her latest book, schedule for release in 2009. But, she also has one of the quirkiest and most brain-stimulating blogs on the internet. Check it out.
